The global market for green construction materials is expected to grow from this year's peak of $116 billion to more than $254 billion by 2020, according to a report from Navigant Research.
The average cost of materials used by the construction industry fell 0.1 percent in June, but climbed 1.5 percent compared with June 2012, according to the Associated General Contractors of America's analysis of data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Housing construction and home prices grew nationally from late May through Early July. Production of lumber and building materials also increased. While builders started work on fewer homes in June, applications for permits to build single-family houses reached their highest level in five years.
