Shortages of lumber, wall board, and other key home building materials have been reported by home builders and lumber dealers. Builders reported shortages most often in oriented strand board, followed by wall board, framing lumber, and plywood.
Total construction spending increased 0.5 percent in May to $875 billion, up 5.4 percent from May 2012, as residential and public construction growth overbalanced a decline in private nonresidential building.
LEED v4, the latest version of U.S. Green Building Council's green building rating system, will go into effect this fall. The oft-revised and much debated version has been approved by 86 percent of the USGBC membership.
