NBMDA Launches New Sales Trend Statistics Program

The first on-line survey related to the new NBMDA Quarterly Sales Trend Report was distributed to all distributor members in mid July. Completed surveys were due by the end of July and the first report will be issued in late August.

NBMDA distributor members have been asking for a tool to benchmark their firm’s sales performance to other distributors as well as access to data on leading indicators which may help to predict future industry sales trends. In response, the association has developed the NBMDA Quarterly Sales Trend Survey.

The quarterly reports generated from our surveys will provide members with valuable data on industry sales trends broken down by region, annual gross revenue and annual gross sales volume. Results of the survey will allow member firms to benchmark their company’s sales trends to quarterly industry averages and ultimately will provide comparisons from quarter to quarter as well as to prior year corresponding quarters.

The success of this new program is now dependent on securing strong member participation in completing the surveys on a quarterly basis.

It is important to note, all questions in the NBMDA Quarterly Sales Trend Survey are categorical in nature and will be reported only in the aggregate; at no time will member companies be asked to report individual company figures. Additionally, all data is immediately forwarded to a third party market research firm which will tabulate and generate the reports. Officers, directors and staff of NBMDA will never have access to the data that you report.

The questionnaire has been designed to be completed in no more than 15 minutes. If someone other than the association’s primary contact with your firm should receive the quarterly surveys, please make certain to inform the NBMDA headquarters office. (nbmda@smithbucklin.com)

Watch for the Third Quarter Survey to be distributed in October and plan to participate!

2004 Educational Development Program

The 2004 Educational Development Program was a huge success! Our fundraising target was exceeded and our contributors have been very pleased with the program. Funds generated through the program are already being used to add greater value to your NBMDA experience. The new NBMDA Quarterly Sales Trend Report launched in July was made possible through the funding generated from this program.

Watch for details on the 2005 Educational Development Program to be released this Fall. If you are a 2004 donor, please plan to once again support this worthwhile program. If you did not lend your support in 2004, please plan to join us next year.

PCBC Proves to Be Highly Productive

A contingent of member volunteers and staff headed by NBMDA President, Ron Calhoun, traveled to San Francisco in June to attend the annual Pacific Coast Builders Conference (PCBC). The objective of the road trip was to strengthen the base of Specialty Building Products Distribution (SBPD) members on the west coast. Personal visits with prospective distributor and manufacturer members attending the show proved to be a highly productive and efficient means of spreading the NBMDA value message. Several new members have already been secured as a result of the effort and many more are expected. For more information on PCBC, visit www.pcbc.com.
