Since 2000, an investment bust, a stock market collapse, terrorist attacks, governance scandals, surging productivity, and fears of deflation have buffeted the US economy. Housing markets have boomed through the period and consumer spending has been resilient. Output has been increasing for more than two years, but the labor markets have until recently been showing declines in employment. Monetary and fiscal policies have been expansionary helping to support activity. In the spring of 2004, labor markets have strengthened, business investment in increasing, and global prospects have improved. Lackluster employment growth, a looming election, the outsourcing issue have charged the atmosphere. Your industry has been amongst those challenged by the changes coursing through the world. Grace Terpstra has her own lobbying
and public affairs firm, Terpstra Associates, in Washington DC.
She has an extensive background in business government affairs
issues with an emphasis on environmental and manufacturing concerns.
Prior to the formation of the Hardwood Federation, Grace represented
the National Hardwood Lumber Association. She now represents the
expanded umbrella of hardwood organizations as Washington Representative
for the Hardwood Federation.
Prior to forming Terpstra Associates,
Grace was employed by the largest worldwide paper company, Scott
Paper, and helped open the company's first Washington office.
She also has worked for the American Furniture Manufacturers Association,
National Association of Realtors, and National Cotton Council
in Washington.
