What is your company doing to stay abreast of the competition and keep up with industry trends?
Amerhart is part of and participates in many organizations on the local, state, regional and national level, one of which is NBMDA.These organizations help us stay ahead of the competition. We also work closely with the customer to ensure satisfaction and to gain insight into trends in the industry.
What role do you see the Internet playing in building material distribution?
The Internet will shrink the time customers need to gather the information for product purchase decisions and will change the role of some of our staff as we move into the future. It also will help automate many of the routine business functions (invoicing, purchasing and remittance) which will allow more productivitiy from our staff.
In what ways does NBMDA add value to your firm?
Our branch managers and product managers along with our top management are members of NBMDA andhave developed relationships that allow us to call our "friends in the industry" when we have a problem or need information or advice about products or vendors. NBMDA also delivers educational value to all levels of our organization. And finally, the NBMDA Annual Convention & Tabletop Business Session is a place where we meet regularly with our trading partners to strengthen our ability to do business in our markets.
Reliability
Amerhart essentially performs three functions in our markets:
- Transportation - We get it there faster
- Financing - We provide the necessary resources to finance the purchase
- Information - We tell our customers everything they need to know about the products
Our approach is to "do what we say we will do." We want to be known as one of the most reliable distributors in our markets.
Capability
We spend time and money to keep abreast of the technologies needed to operate more efficiently. Our IT staff is tasked with reviewing the new technologies available and implementing the most cost-efficient solutions.
Adaptability
In the future, the biggest challenges probably lie in the consolidation of our more traditional accounts into larger businesses such as Stock Building Supply or UBC. The ever-changing channel definitions, functions, costs and expectation require distributors to be very adaptable to change if they are to survive.
Amerhart Background Information
