Last Chance to Support the 2004 Educational Development Program

The 2004 Educational Development Program will close to new donors on May 1st . The inaugural program surpassed its targeted fundraising goal and is being hailed as an overwhelming success. The 2005 program will be introduced to the members in the Fall of 2004.

"The 2004 program garnered the support of over fifty member firms. We exceeded our fundraising goal of generating $70,000 for the NBMDA Education Foundation and thus, we are extremely pleased with the results considering it was our first year of introducing the program" commented NBMDA Executive Vice President, Kevin Gammonley. "Several new educational and informational products are being evaluated which will be introduced to the membership as a direct result of our fundraising success. These include a new Advanced Inside Sales self-study CD-based training program and the upcoming NBMDA Quarterly Sales Trend Report", added Gammonley.

More than half way through the first year of the Cabinet Shop Management Course, over 50 cabinet shops have taken part in the program co-sponsored by CabinetMaker Magazine. The program has generated a lot of positive discussion in the cabinet shop community, and plans are under way to make the second year of the program even better. CabinetMaker staff are talking with current participants and distributor sponsors to gather feedback and identify ways to improve the program for year two. The course outline is currently being developed by the magazine's editorial staff.

Focus on Growing Solid Surface -Oriented Members

Staff traveled to Las Vegas to attend the 2004 Solid Surface International Expo in March. The event provides access to manufacturers of surfacing materials and related accessories. A growing number of distributors attend this event which provides a valuable touchpoint for the association with both distributor members and prospects. Meetings with supplier members may lead to greater involvement by their distributors. Staff is currently following-up with contacts made at the show. Your support is needed in this important initiative to grow a key product category within the association. Please contact your solid surface trading partners and encourage them to become active in NBMDA/CIDA.

SBPD UPDATE

Focus on Growing Decking-Oriented Members

The 2004 Deck Expo held in February in Reno, Nevada proved to once again be a solid source for potential new SBPD members. Member volunteers and staff teamed-up to solicit key prospects within the decking category for NBMDA membership. The composite decking and railing product category continues to be a fast growing opportunity for NBMDA members and thus, a membership growth opportunity for the association. Your support is needed in this important initiative to grow a key product category within the association. Please contact your decking and railing trading partners and encourage them to become active in NBMDA/SBPD.

PCBC Recruitment Road Trip Planned

The Specialty Building Products Distribution membership segment is sponsoring a member recruitment road trip in conjunction with the 2004 PCBC show on June 16-18 in San Francisco. Non-member distributors attending the show as well as non-member manufacturers exhibiting in the event will be targeted. Member volunteers and staff will seek to schedule appointments with key prospects to inform them about the primary benefits of NBMDA membership. The NBMDA Executive Committee has scheduled its traditional summer committee meeting in conjunction with the event in order for committee members to fully support the recruitment initiative. Any member interested in supporting this proactive initiative to grow the association should contact Kevin Gammonley in the NBMDA Headquarters Office (312)321-6845 or kgammonley@smithbucklin.com.

Committee Meeting Notice

The Specialty Building Products Distribution Steering Committee has scheduled its next meeting on Thursday, November 4, 2004 in conjunction with the 2004 NBMDA Annual Convention in Chicago.
