Long-Lewis Hardware Company to Market Pro Hardware Stores Program
Doug Stanford, vice president and general manager of the Birmingham, Alabama-based Long-Lewis Hardware Company, today announced that the Long-Lewis Hardware Company is now marketing the PRO Hardware stores program. Long-Lewis has been affiliated with PRO Group since 1987 and also markets the FARM Mart program.

Stanford said marketing the PRO Hardware program will help Long-Lewis provide retailers national recognition and new marketing programs. "Taking our relationship with PRO Group to the next level by marketing the PRO Hardware program was a natural fit for us, as marketing the FARM MART program was when it first became available," Stanford said. "Offering the PRO Hardware program will enable us to more effectively service larger accounts." Stanford added that over time, Long-Lewis plans to create a network of PRO Hardware-affiliated retailers that reaches other key markets in the South.

Long-Lewis will formally introduce the PRO Hardware program to retailers and prospects attending its 2004 Great Southern Hardware Expo at the Mobile Convention Center April 3 - 4, 2004 in Mobile, Alabama.

C.H. Briggs today announced that it has acquired the assets of two Atlantic Plywood branches, located in Quakertown, PA and Baltimore, MD, a regional distributor specializing in hardwood plywoods. Financial terms were not disclosed

This purchase will enable C.H. Briggs to provide its customers with a broader product portfolio, including hardwood plywood in various cores and thickness, flakeboard, MDF, melamine, and specialty sheet goods. Atlantic Plywood's product line will complement the existing hardware and surfacing materials offering for cabinet and countertop manufacturers.

"Purchasing the assets of these Atlantic Plywood branches is a strategic fit for Briggs, building on our expertise in specialty products to the cabinet, countertop, casework, and fixture industries," said Julia Klein, President and CEO, C.H. Briggs. "This action is consistent with our growth objectives, and these additions to our product offering will help us serve customers better. Customers will be able to conveniently and efficiently streamline their purchasing with a trusted source in the manner they choose, online 24/7 at chbriggs.com, by phone or by fax."

The acquisition will strengthen Briggs' foothold in current markets served and provide a platform to expand into new markets, thereby providing considerable opportunity for current supplier partners to increase their market share with Briggs customers. In addition, expanded coverage from three locations will enable C.H. Briggs to provide higher levels of sales and delivery service.

As part of the acquisition, C.H. Briggs expects to add 20 new positions.
