Green Home Building Education at U.S. Green Building Council's Annual Greenbuild ConferenceGreen building is everywhere these days – from the local news to Business Week magazine to the Wall Street Journal. If you are a reporter covering the green building, residential home construction, real estate, energy or human health, chances are you've encountered green along the way. Want to learn more? Come to the U.S. Green Building Council's (USGBC) annual conference and exhibition, which will be held from Nov. 7-9, 2007 in Chicago . Greenbuild is the world's largest conference and exhibit hall dedicated to green building. Join over 20,000 attendees to learn more about the rapidly growing green home building industry including the LEED® green building rating system, which was developed by the USGBC as a tool to build healthy, energy efficient, resource-friendly structures. The LEED green building rating system, originally developed by USGBC for new commercial construction is now available for homes (single and low-rise multi-family and including affordable construction). LEED certification of a home will ensure that the house is energy efficient, healthy and environmentally responsible. An article in United Airlines' in-flight magazine Hemispheres states that “awareness [for green] is growing and consumer preferences are starting to shift. The arrival of the new LEED for Homes program may tip the balance toward the genuinely green homes that many consumers want and the planet needs.” The Greenbuild conference brings the entire industry together from the commercial to the residential sector: architects, home builders, real estate professionals, code officials, contractors, educators, financial service providers, government agencies, green power providers, interior designers, schools, universities, students, urban planners – all will be at the conference to share ideas and learn more. Greenbuild is designed to put attendees ahead of the curve. As was noted in last year's Harvard Business Review, “The green future is here.” Greenbuild 2007 will explore “Accelerating Green Communities” through a variety of educational sessions, full- and half-day LEED workshops, exciting speakers, special events and building tours. A variety of workshops and educational sessions will be offered throughout the show related to green building: This year the Greenbuild exhibit hall will be held in McCormick Place West in Chicago , which will be the largest hall in Greenbuild history. The exhibit hall will include over 850 booths and feature a Homes Pavilion packed with exhibits on residential goods, technologies, products and services – the latest and greatest in green residential home building. Chicago 's burgeoning green building scene and architectural bastion will serve as the backdrop for what will be the largest Greenbuild conference on record. Celebrated as the center of American architecture, Chicago was one of the first cities to adopt the LEED Rating System for publicly owned buildings, and is home to the largest number of LEED registered projects of any city in the world. Tours of 40 of Chicago's most celebrated buildings will take place throughout the event, and will be complimentary to press. Greenbuild is presented annually by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), a nonprofit organization composed of more than 10,500 organizations ranging from private companies to nonprofits, educational institutions, and government agencies, all working to transform the building industry. Since its founding in 1993, USGBC has been at the forefront of green building, introducing the nationally used LEED® Green Building Rating System™ in 2000 and launching the Greenbuild Conference in 2002. Visit the newly launched Greenbuild Web site: www.greenbuildexpo.org. Registration Registration for members of the press is complimentary, and includes access to all 150+ educational and break-out sessions; key note presentations; the master speaker series' and green building tours.
